June 7 PD

June 6, 2024NewsThe following is an outline of the professional development that staff will be engaged in over the course of the June 7 PD Day.

Teachers will be working on reviewing and documenting assessment and evaluation data on this day.
Support Staff will be engaging in the following:

Morning Session from 9:00 am to 12 noon
In the morning session, staff will be focused on professional development with John McGivney Children’s Centre therapists in the following two areas to support our students:
  • The use of eye gaze as a form of communication
  • Accessibility in the classroom
Lunch from 12:00 to 1:00 pm 

Afternoon Session (1:00 to 3:00 pm) 
Our afternoon PD session will focus on learning more about diversity and inclusion in the area of disabilities and the creation and development of sensory-based resources for staff to use in their classrooms:
  • Speaker Michael Jacques is a public speaker and advocate who was diagnosed with autism and an intellectual disability. He looks for opportunities to inspire and educate people on diversity and inclusion. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
  • Staff will work on the development of Sensory Box Stories to be used in our classrooms with all of our students but particularly for our students with visual challenges.
